In what can be described as a scathing political rebuttal, the Director General of the Asiwaju Political Movement (APM), Comrade Mediba Monday Ledum, has dismissed the proposed one-term presidency agenda of Labour Party’s Peter Obi as nothing more than a desperate ploy lacking genuine political philosophy or ideology beneficial to Nigerians.

Speaking during a media engagement in Abuja on Tuesday, Comr. Ledum warned Nigerians to be wary of what he described as “political desperadoes” who wear the cloak of reformers but are driven by personal ambition and public deception.

According to him, Peter Obi’s public declaration to serve only one term if elected president is not rooted in any deep-seated ideological conviction, but rather a tactical move aimed at winning public sympathy and diverting attention from his lack of a clear-cut agenda for national development.

The one term agenda is an act of desperation not leadership. It is a hollow promise meant to bait the youths who are already queuing behind the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr President based on its long term benefits to Nigerians across all sectors of the economy” Comr Ledum said.

The APM DG questioned the logic behind promising only four years in office in a country where long-term planning and continuity are essential for sustainable progress.

He emphasized that genuine leadership must be anchored on clear vision, tested ideology, and a robust roadmap for economic growth, national unity, and institutional reform — all of which, he claims, are glaringly missing in Obi’s political proposition.

Describing Obi’s strategy as “a classic case of political cosmetics,” Ledum said Nigerians must look beyond emotion, media appearances, and populist slogans, and instead, focus on political actors with traceable records of service, ideological clarity, and consistent loyalty to democratic principles.

We must not allow those who wear black attires and speak in riddles to blindfold the nation into another round of experimental governance. Nigeria is too important to be used as a political laboratory,” the APM chieftain added, in a jab many interpreted as a reference to Obi’s distinctive campaign style and dress code.

He reiterated that APM, as a movement firmly aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda championed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is committed to protecting the integrity of democratic leadership and ensuring that only leaders with clear competence and patriotic ideals are supported in the political landscape.

Comr. Ledum concluded by calling on youths, civil society organizations, and political stakeholders to engage more critically with candidates and avoid being swayed by trendy narratives without substance.

“A nation like Nigeria cannot afford to gamble again. We must choose substance over sentiment, structure over shadows,” he said.

The statement by the APM DG has since stirred reactions across political circles, further heating up the national discourse ahead of the next electoral cycle.”
