Business mogul Aliko Dangote has called for an investigation into the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed, over allegations linked to the payment of his children’s school fees abroad.

In a statement that has generated widespread public debate, Dangote asked Ahmed to explain how he allegedly raised $5 million to fund his children’s education in Switzerland. The allegation, which continues to circulate on social media and in public discussions, has increased scrutiny of the finances and lifestyles of public officials.

Dangote, who leads the Dangote Group, made the call while speaking on transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s petroleum sector. He urged anti-corruption agencies to investigate the source of the funds, stressing that public office holders must clearly account for their wealth.

As of the time of filing this report, Farouk Ahmed has not responded publicly to the allegation. The NMDPRA has also not released an official statement on the matter.

Industry analysts note that the development comes at a time of ongoing reforms and tensions in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. Regulatory oversight and transparency remain major concerns. Civil society organisations have also called for a thorough and impartial investigation to establish the facts.

The allegations remain unproven, and authorities have not announced any formal charges. Observers say the situation reflects growing public demand for accountability among government officials.
