It was a traumatic experience for the Pastor of Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) Pastor, Matthew Atayi last Sunday when gunmen invaded his church when the service was going on in Kogi State.

He narrated how he escaped from his church after some armed men stormed the religious facility. The pastor spoke during his interview on AIT Live.
It was learned that the incident resulted in the kidnap of three church members, and a worshipper was killed by the kidnappers.
You may recall that an ECWA Church located at Okedayo, Kabba (the headquarters of Kabba Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State), was attacked on a Sunday morning. The church, situated along the expressway of Kabba-Okene road, was attacked while service was in session. The pastor of the affected Church has since shared details of the incident.

Narrating the incident, Pastor Matthew said, “The kidnappers stormed the church while I was conducting the call to worship, and they were shooting sporadically. They disrupted the service, and I escaped from the church by running. One of the abductors chased me and ordered me to stop, but I refused to stop. I kept falling while running, but I did not stop running. I returned to the Church after I realized that no one was chasing me.”
Narrating further, Pastor Matthew said, “Upon my return to the church, I noticed that people were weeping. I entered the church to see the corpse of Mr Ruben Gbenga while another worshipper was lying in a pool of blood. I eventually joined others who were crying. Every member of the children’s department escaped except my daughter. We went about crying and searching for her until we found her hiding in the toilet. We had not started the church service before the attack took place.”
The pastor advised all the criminals in Nigeria to repent and embrace Jesus regardless of their sins. He added that Jesus is ready to accept and forgive all criminals if they surrender to him.
