According to sources, investigators identified several specific properties during the probe.
First, they traced a villa located at House No. 113 in Arabella Estate in the Fifth Settlement district.
In addition, they discovered another villa at House No. 18 in Banafsik Estate in the First Settlement area.
Investigators also reportedly identified a third villa at House No. 11 in Oriana II Estate. This estate sits close to the American University in Cairo.
Furthermore, authorities traced four luxury apartments in the Cairo Festival City development. The units are reportedly numbered 514, 515, 516 and 517.
Finally, investigators also discovered two additional apartments in Oriana Estate. These units are reportedly listed as numbers 4000 and 4100.
Officials say the investigation is still ongoing. Therefore, more properties could still be identified.
El-Rufai Egypt luxury villas: Estimated Value Of The Luxury Properties
Real estate experts say villas in New Cairo estates such as Arabella and Banafsik can cost between $1 million and $1.3 million.
Luxury apartments in Cairo Festival City also command high prices. Some units in the development sell for about $500,000.
As a result, the total value of the properties under investigation could run into several millions of dollars.
When converted to Nigerian currency, the value could amount to billions of naira.
However, investigators are still verifying ownership records and payment documents.
International Cooperation May Be Required
Because the properties are located outside Nigeria, investigators may require international cooperation.
Anti-corruption experts say foreign asset investigations usually involve several legal steps. These steps often include verifying land registry records and reviewing financial transactions.
In addition, investigators may work with authorities in Egypt to confirm property ownership.
Such investigations often take time. Nevertheless, they can reveal how assets were purchased and who truly owns them.
Legal Pressure Continues To Mount
The latest development has added more pressure on the former Kaduna governor.
Since leaving office in 2023, several investigations have reportedly examined financial activities linked to his administration.
Earlier reports also suggested that authorities investigated government contracts and financial transactions carried out during his tenure.
Consequently, the new findings about foreign properties have attracted national attention.
El-Rufai Yet To Respond
As of the time of this report, Nasir El-Rufai has not issued an official response to the latest allegations.
However, the former governor has previously denied wrongdoing in relation to other accusations.
In earlier statements, he described some investigations against him as politically motivated.
Meanwhile, the ICPC has not released a detailed public statement confirming the property discoveries.
Calls For Greater Accountability
The reports have sparked new conversations about transparency among Nigerian public officials.
Anti-corruption advocates say the case highlights the need for stronger monitoring of public office holders.
Furthermore, experts believe Nigeria must strengthen cooperation with foreign governments when tracing overseas assets.
If the allegations are confirmed, the discovery could become one of the most significant foreign asset investigations involving a former Nigerian governor.
For now, investigators say the probe continues as authorities examine financial records and ownership documents.
