An eight-month-old baby and an adult woman have died following a road accident along Ikorodu Road in Lagos.

The crash occurred opposite Olabode House in the Anthony area on Wednesday.

Ikorodu Road Crash… How the Accident Happened

According to eyewitness accounts, a red Tata commercial bus travelling at high speed from Palmgrove towards Anthony reportedly lost control, veered off its lane, and crashed into an oncoming Volkswagen commercial bus heading towards Palmgrove.

Fatal Impact of the Collision

The collision resulted in the death of an adult female passenger onboard the Volkswagen bus. An eight-month-old baby also later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Emergency Response and Rescue Operations

Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), with assistance from members of the public, responded promptly to the scene.

Victims Rescued from Wreckage Ikorodu Road Crash Lagos…

A total of 10 victims, including the drivers of both vehicles, were rescued from the wreckage, all sustaining varying degrees of serious injuries. Six trapped passengers were rescued from the Volkswagen bus, while four others were evacuated from the Tata bus.

Traffic Control and Medical Attention

To prevent secondary accidents, LASTMA officials cordoned off the scene and removed the damaged vehicles, restoring traffic flow along Ikorodu Road.

Injured Victims Taken to Hospital

The Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) transported the injured victims to nearby hospitals for urgent medical treatment. Officials of the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) recovered and evacuated the bodies of the deceased.

Official Reaction and Safety Warning

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the families of the victims, particularly the mother of the infant, who also sustained severe injuries and is currently receiving treatment.

Call for Caution on Lagos Roads

Bakare-Oki urged motorists, especially commercial drivers, to obey speed limits and drive responsibly to prevent similar tragedies.
