The Yoruba film industry is mourning the loss of rising star Omotola Odunsi, who has passed away.
Colleague Akinola “Segbowe” Akano confirmed her demise in an emotional Instagram post, sharing screenshots of their last conversation.
In their last exchange, Odunsi told Segbowe she was feeling better after being unwell, making her passing a “rude shock.”
Segbowe expressed condolences to her family, saying, “Journey well, sister. God be with your family.”
Other industry colleagues, including Ashabi Simple and Odunlade Adekola, paid tribute to Odunsi on social media.
Simple recalled their recent encounter on a movie set and unfulfilled plans to work together, while Adekola expressed sadness over his trainee’s demise.
Odunsi began her acting career in stage dramas during her university days and was trained under Adekola’s guidance. She graduated in 2023 and went on to feature in several films, including “Lisabi: The Uprising” and “Officer Adaeze.”
The cause of her death remains unknown.
