The Nigeria Police Force is deeply saddened to announce the passing of retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Parry Benjamin Osemwegie Osayande, CFR who died in Benin City on Sunday, 28th September 2025, just one day before his 89th birthday.
The announced was contained in a Press Release signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin available to SOJ WORLDWIDE on Thursday, October 2, 2025.
“DIG Osayande was a towering figure in Nigerian policing. Over a distinguished career, he served as Commissioner of Police in multiple states, rose to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General, and later chaired the Police Service Commission from 2008 to 2013.

He also led several presidential committees on police reform, earning widespread respect for his professionalism, accountability, and dedication to national security.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on behalf of the entire Nigeria Police Force, extends his deepest condolences to the Osayande family, the Police Service Commission, and all who mourn this great loss. He described the late DIG as a “pillar of reform and an embodiment of courage in service.”
The NPF prays for the peaceful repose of DIG Osayande’s soul, and strength for his loved ones during this difficult time. Funeral arrangements will be communicated by the family in due course.”
