THE Lagos State Government has given traders at the Computer Village in Ikeja an 18-month deadline to relocate to the new market site at Katangowa in the Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Gbolahan Oki, announced this on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 during a stakeholders’ meeting with the traders and their executives at the market.

The government wants your cooperation to ensure the relocation comes to pass. The time is now. We have to make the project a reality. The relocation period is 18 months,” Oki said.

He explained that the Katangowa site, covering 15 hectares, had been fully prepared with the necessary facilities to make it conducive for business. The relocation, first proposed in 2006, had faced delays due to the slow pace of development work.

Oki added that the current location in Ikeja was originally a residential area converted into a trading hub without government approval. He said the meeting was to carry the traders along in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s inclusive governance style and concern for citizens’ welfare.

The governor is passionate about infrastructure development and wants you to be aware of the relocation. Katangowa is a place chosen for everything relating to this market. It is near all the materials you need for your business,” he said.

Project Coordinator Olayinka Bello said the new market would feature facilities such as a police post, hotels, and proximity to the Bus Rapid Transit terminal for easy movement.

Iyaloja of Computer Village, Chief Abisola Azeez, recalled that the market executives had reached an agreement in 2006 with then Lagos State Governor Bola Tinubu, now Nigeria’s President, to relocate the market to Katangowa. She urged traders to comply with the government’s relocation plan.
