The Lagos State Government has identified 176 illegal estate developments in the state, predominantly located in Eti-Osa, Ajah, Ibeju-Lekki, and Epe, and has given them a 21-day ultimatum to process their layout approvals.

These Estates were deemed illegal due to their failure to obtain layout approvals from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.

Why are these Estates considered illegal?

They lack layout approvals, which are essential for ensuring proper arrangement of estates, infrastructure, and services.

They violate urban development laws and the Lagos State Government’s T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda for sustainable development.

Consequences of non-compliance

The government may take action against the estates if they fail to comply within the 21-day deadline.

Government’s efforts to regulate development

The Lagos State Government is intensifying efforts to regulate development and ensure compliance with urban planning regulations.

The government has also reminded developers and real estate practitioners of the need to register with the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority (LASRERA) to ensure proper coordination, monitoring, and compliance within the real estate sector.
