Abuja, Nigeria — Nigeria’s Defence Minister, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has reacted to the alleged coup plot involving some military officers. According to him, his greatest concern is for the young officers dragged into the crisis by a senior officer.

Speaking further, Musa said the junior officers involved will still face the law despite their rank.

“My pain is for the young officers the colonel put in this mess. They will have to face the law,” Musa said.

Senior Officer Misled Junior Personnel

According to the Defence Minister, a colonel abused his authority and influenced officers under his command. As a result, several young officers now face serious legal consequences.

At the same time, Musa explained that many of the affected officers are still at the early stages of their careers. Unfortunately, the actions of a senior officer have placed their future in danger.

In his words, leadership failure often causes long-term damage within the military.

Military Will Enforce Discipline

Furthermore, Musa stressed that the Nigerian Armed Forces will not tolerate any act that threatens national security. Consequently, the military has handed the matter over to relevant security agencies for proper investigation.

In addition, he confirmed that military courts will handle the cases. If found guilty, the officers will face courts-martial and other legal penalties.

Armed Forces Remain Loyal to Democracy

Meanwhile, the Defence Minister reassured Nigerians that the Armed Forces remain united and loyal to the Constitution. Importantly, he said the alleged plot does not reflect the values of the military.

More importantly, Musa emphasized that the Armed Forces continue to support democratic governance and civilian authority.

Call for Accountability and Ethical Leadership

Therefore, Musa urged senior officers to lead with integrity and protect those under their command. Likewise, he warned that the military will punish any officer who abuses authority.

In conclusion, Musa said Nigeria must protect its democracy at all costs. Ultimately, he assured the public that the Armed Forces will act decisively against any form of insubordination.
