How the Arrest Unfolded
During routine passenger screening, Onyekwere was flagged for further checks. Authorities conducted a full-body scan and a strip search, which revealed the cocaine concealed in his undergarments and footwear. According to preliminary questioning, Onyekwere claimed he purchased the drugs in Brazil to resell in Nigeria. He also reportedly said part of the plan was to raise funds for his business and finance his newborn child’s naming ceremony.
NDLEA’s Commitment
This arrest is part of the NDLEA’s ongoing anti-narcotics operations targeting traffickers at major Nigerian airports. In recent months, the agency has intercepted several international shipments of cocaine and other drugs, reinforcing its commitment to curb illicit drug trafficking in the country.
