BREAKING: Boko Haram Sets Adamawa Communities Ablaze in Fresh Evening Attack

Troops of the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army have recorded significant successes in the ongoing fight against crude oil theft and illegal refining activities across the Niger Delta, arresting 19 suspected oil thieves, dismantling 22 illegal refining sites, and recovering over 180,000 litres of stolen petroleum products.

The operations, which spanned November 23 to December 28, 2025, were carried out across multiple flashpoints in the region as part of sustained military efforts to curb economic sabotage and environmental degradation.

Massive Recovery of Stolen Petroleum Products

According to a statement issued on Monday in Port Harcourt, troops recovered large volumes of stolen products, including crude oil, illegally refined diesel, kerosene, and other petroleum derivatives, during coordinated raids on illegal refining camps and transport routes.

Military sources revealed that several storage facilities, cooking ovens, drums, hoses, and pumping machines used by the oil thieves were also destroyed to prevent further criminal activities.

Arrests and Site Destruction

The 19 suspects were apprehended at various locations while allegedly engaging in illegal refining, transporting stolen crude, or guarding illegal sites. The suspects have since been handed over to relevant authorities for further investigation and prosecution.

Protecting National Assets and the Environment

The Nigerian Army said the operations form part of its broader mandate to protect critical national assets, safeguard the environment, and support Nigeria’s economic stability by reducing losses caused by crude oil theft.
