In a strategic effort to address the economic challenges confronting digital journalism, the Osun Online Publishers Association (OOPA) is set to host a high-level digital media workshop themed: “Beyond the Story: The Economics of Press Freedom in the Digital Media Space.”

The event is scheduled for Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 10:00 AM, and will be held at Ben-Ber Hall, Ring Road, Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

With the urgent need to empower grassroots media practitioners and combat the growing marginalization of journalists, the workshop will feature engaging sessions led by seasoned industry experts.

Adejumo Kabir, a renowned investigative journalist and media development advocate, will deliver the keynote address, offering deep insights into the empowerment of local media voices in today’s digital era.

Another key session will be anchored by Moses Adedire, an ICT consultant and tech entrepreneur, who will speak on the importance of financial independence for journalists and highlight emerging economic opportunities within the digital media ecosystem.

According to OOPA, under the leadership of Mukhtar Ajelogbon, the workshop is a critical step in the association’s broader mission to reposition community journalism, deepen press freedom, and strengthen the financial resilience of media professionals across Osun State and beyond.

This event is not just about storytelling; it is about sustaining the storyteller,” the association emphasized in a statement.

As media professionals continue to navigate a landscape marked by economic constraints and ethical challenges, the workshop aims to serve as a catalyst for transformation, fostering innovation, sustainability, and press freedom in the digital age.
