The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed speculation about former President Goodluck Jonathan’s potential return to the 2027 presidential race, calling him “unfit” to challenge incumbent President Bola Tinubu. APC spokesman Seye Oladejo stated that Jonathan’s administration left Nigeria with severe structural weaknesses and that the country has moved beyond the politics of sentiment and nostalgia.

Oladejo questioned Jonathan’s eligibility for the 2027 presidential election, citing constitutional complications and potential legal contention due to his previous terms in office.

The APC believes Nigeria needs bold, capable, and forward-thinking leadership, rather than a return to past leadership that didn’t perform well.

Meanwhile, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State mentioned that the PDP is considering Jonathan as a potential candidate, along with other influential southern politicians like Peter Obi and Seyi Makinde.

The 2027 presidential election is shaping up to be competitive, with potential candidates including Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and others.

Oladejo emphasized that the APC remains focused on consolidating progress, implementing reforms, and engaging the Nigerian electorate with fresh ideas and credible candidates who reflect the aspirations of a dynamic, youthful population.
