The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that an abduction incident occurred in Kurmin Wali, a remote community in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, following days of uncertainty and conflicting accounts surrounding the reported attack.

Initial reports of the incident had sparked widespread concern; however, the situation became muddled after a meeting of the Kaduna State Security Council, convened by Governor Uba Sani, where some representatives from the affected area challenged the police’s earlier confirmation and described the reports as inaccurate.

The disagreement prompted security agencies to exercise caution while verification was ongoing.

According to the police, remarks made by the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State during a media briefing were aimed at preventing panic rather than dismissing the incident.

Police authorities clarified that the comments were intended to allow time for fact-finding, particularly regarding the number and identities of those affected.

However, further intelligence and field reports later established that the abduction did take place.

Consequently, the police activated joint security operations with other agencies to track the perpetrators and secure the safe release of the victims.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, ordered the deployment of additional tactical and intelligence assets to Kajuru and nearby communities.

A senior police source said the strategy includes targeted search-and-rescue missions, reinforced patrols, and heightened surveillance to prevent further attacks.

“Our priority is the safe recovery of those taken and the restoration of confidence among residents,” the source said.

Moreover, security presence in the area has been strengthened to protect lives and property, while intelligence-led operations continue to identify and dismantle criminal networks operating in the region.

The police appealed to residents and the media to exercise restraint and rely on official updates, warning that speculation could undermine ongoing operations.

Authorities assured the public that verified information would be released as developments unfold.
