Nigeria’s Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has reportedly been flown abroad for medical treatment after collapsing earlier this month.
Sources in the National Assembly told SaharaReporters that Akpabio collapsed on the 10th of the month. According to them, a private jet owned by billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote flew him to London for urgent medical care.

His absence was noticeable at the event, which sets out Nigeria’s medium-term fiscal plans. Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi represented him at the session.
A source confirmed the development, saying Akpabio had already missed the MTEF presentation.
Sources also disclosed that this marks the second time doctors have rushed him to London for treatment. The development has raised concerns about his health and his ability to continue leading the Senate.

According to the sources, his condition requires extended medical care abroad. Several senators have reportedly travelled to London to visit him during his hospital stay.
Medical experts attending to Akpabio have also expressed concern. A source said doctors advised him to step down from his role to focus on his health.
Akpabio last appeared in public on December 9. On that day, the Senate approved President Bola Tinubu’s request to deploy troops to the Republic of Benin.
