PORTHARCOURT — The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says Governor Siminalayi Fubara betrayed the party. The faction claims he misled leaders and abandoned the PDP, causing political tension in the state.

Dr. Nname Ewor, factional Caretaker Chairman of Rivers PDP, spoke on Thursday. He alleged that Fubara entered agreements with President Bola Tinubu during the state of emergency in Rivers but ignored key terms of the deal.

Rivers PDP Accuses Fubara of Breaking Promises

According to Ewor, the agreement included commitments such as Fubara not seeking another term, reinstating the Chairman of the Rivers Traditional Rulers Council, and removing certain aides from office.

“The people of Rivers deserve to know the full details of the agreements,” Ewor said. “Governor Fubara has refused to disclose his deal with the president. This lack of transparency undermines public trust.”

The PDP faction insists that Fubara’s failure to honour the agreements contributed to the collapse of peace in the state and led to the emergency rule.

Rivers PDP Accuses Fubara of Defection and Misleading Leaders

The faction also condemned Fubara for defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Ewor said Fubara had claimed that Tinubu would force the Rivers House of Assembly to pass the 2026 budget and make influential leaders back his reelection.

“These claims were misleading,” the PDP faction added. They said Fubara skipped the PDP’s 2025 national convention in Ibadan while allegedly deceiving delegates to attend. The matter is now before the courts.

Rivers PDP Accuses Fubara: Calls for Transparency

Ewor emphasized that the faction aligns with former Governor Nyesom Wike and supports President Tinubu’s 2027 reelection bid. He called on Fubara to disclose all agreements to help Rivers residents make informed political decisions.

Political analysts say the situation has heightened tension in Rivers State. Party loyalty, governance, and federal influence are now under close scrutiny.
