Terrorists attack Kebbi Deputy Governor convoy, 19  dead including Soldiers, the Police

Dare devil gunmen on Tuesday evening attacked the convoy of the Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, Samaila Yombe in fierce gun battles leaving 19  persons dead including security guards comprising of the police and soldiers.

It was gathered that Yombe was in Kanya in Dangu Wasagu Local Government Area of the State to commiserate with families of 63 vigilante members killed by bandits on Sunday.

When the Deputy Governor was at the village, hundreds of bandits on motorcycles struck and engaged the Security personnel in intense gun-battle.

The terrorists said to have targeted the Deputy Governor, in a bid to kill him, came in large number and overpowered his security operatives.

Sources said if the soldiers had not arrived on time, Yombe would have been killed by the rampaging bandits.

After about three hours of gun-battle, 13 soldiers and six policemen were killed by the bandits before they escaped when reinforcement arrived the village.

Ahmed Umar, a Local, had said: ““Some youths protested on Monday over the incessant bandits’ attacks that are recently becoming too much.

“All the youth in the four areas under Zuru Emirates were angry, so Samaila (Mr Yombe) was asked by the Governor to reach out to the locals. It is obvious that the bandits heard he was coming and decided to attack him while he was in the village.”
