The Osun State chapter of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has clarified its position on the local government fund seizure, debunking allegations that it was responsible for the non-release of Osun State local government allocations.
The union justified its “stay at home” action, citing the need to stop the imposition of court-sacked council chairmen and the payment of council funds through an account opening process that violated financial regulations.
NULGE’s state president, Dr. Nathaniel Ogungbangbe, explained that the action was taken to protect union members due to a violent push to take over local government leadership.

The union alleged that the Osun State APC attempted to create a non-existent office of a treasurer in the account opening process, pushing out career officers with direct responsibilities for fund management across local governments.
NULGE claimed it wrote to relevant authorities to inform them of the anomaly and request that the right process for account opening be followed.
NULGE called on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other federal authorities to allow duly elected council chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to take office and for the right officials to be signatories to local government accounts.
The union maintained that it is not responsible for the fund seizure or non-release, but rather, it is fighting for the rule of law.
The union rebutted Senator Iyiola Omisore and the state APC’s allegations, stating that they were wrong to accuse NULGE of causing the non-release of local government allocations.
NULGE emphasized that its action does not stop the release of seized funds once the right officials are allowed to be signatories to local government accounts.
