UPDATE: OSUN Speaker Egbedun Reacts To Viral Verbal Attacks On His Monarch, APC Calls For His Immediate Impeachment

SPEAKER of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun has officially reacted to the viral audio presently online where he reportedly poured invectives on his king, the Alasi of Asi, Oba Oyewale Olasunkanmi Isaac.

Egbedun in his reaction to the audio widely condemned by the people said he his “regard for tradition remain unshaken.”

The Speaker claimed that the monarch perceived him as a threat since he decided to moved closer to his community in Asi.

“The Alasi has perceived me as a threat since my relocation to Asi, where I chose to be closer to my constituents and address their needs directly. This decision fostered a renewed sense of allegiance among the people of Odo Otin towards me, fundamentally shifting the narrative within our community.

Rather than travelling to Osogbo to see me, the people of Odo Otin now have easier access to me whenever the need arises, illustrating a significant change in the dynamics of our constituency.”

Egbedun said what fueled the feud was the attack on his convoy while he was returning to Asi at Okuku by thugs and endangered his life and his security details.

“Firstly, my convoy was attacked about three weeks ago while returning to Asi at Okuku by thugs. This brazen display of intimidation not only endangered my life but also jeopardized the safety of those travelling with me.

In light of these events, I was compelled to contact the Commissioner of Police and the Director of DSS, both of whom acted swiftly to apprehend one of the culprits involved in the attack against me.”

The 40-year-old Speaker said he continued to receive phone calls from Alasi threatening him that he should not arraign the suspect arrested by the police.

“I received a threatening phone call from the Alasi, instructing me not to allow security operatives arraign the arrested suspect and directing me to stop them from arresting the others involved.”

“Let it be unequivocally clear: I have a deep regard for traditional institutions and respect for the elderly, but that will not come at the expense of my life.

I have done what a son should do for his father and his community for Oba Oyewale on several occasions, but he seems hell-bent on ending my life.”

Meanwhile, the Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC has condemned the action of the Speaker in total terms saying his conduct is “Condemnable, Rude and Obnoxious.”

In a Press Release signed by the APC Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi available to SOJ WORLDWIDE, the party said the ill-manner of the Speaker to the Traditional Ruler of his town has shown that it is “impossible for someone to give what he does not possess.”

In what the party called a show of shame and threat to the life of Alasi, it called for the arrest of the Speaker, his recall by his constituents and his impeachment.

The party called on the Traditional Rulers in the state to show their solidarity with the Alasi “in the spirit of an injury to one as an injury to everyone of them.”

“We are passionately appealing to the Inspector-General of Police to investigate, arrest and prosecute the Speaker on the attack and threat to the life of Oba Olasunkanmi as a life does not have a duplicate once it is taken.

Based on the foregoing, we are appealing to the constituents of the unruly Speaker to begin his recall without further delay as he has proven to be their unworthy representative in the state House of Assembly.

We also want to impress it on the members of the House of Assembly to start, as a matter of urgency, the impeachment process of the Speaker that has dented the corporate image of the Assembly with his unruly behaviour against the sacred Obaship institution of his town.

It is also expedient for the council of traditional rulers in the state to show their grouse on these infractions against one of them by the Speaker in the spirit of an injury to one is an injury to everyone of them.” The party said.
