WEMA Bank Vandalized, Frustrated Nigerians in Mass Protests In Ibadan Over Naira, Fuel Scarcity (FULL REPORT PLUS VIDEOS)

Angry youths and suspected hoodlums on Friday, Feb 3,2023 trooped into the streets in some parts of Ibadan protesting the on-going fuel and Naira notes scarcity.

 

 

 

 

During the protest, a police inspector attached to the Oyo state Government Secretariat, Agodi, in Ibadan was injured.

 

 

 

The protest started at Iwo road end of Ibadan as some youths stormed the Iwo road interchange chanting anti government songs barricading roads amidst the protest.

From Montana, Iwo road interchange axis, the protesters headed for Agodi gate and later matched to the Oyo state Secretariat where they made bonfires with several anti-government songs condemning the fuel and currency scarcity.

The youth armed with dangerous weapons such as iron rods, stones, plastic chairs, broken bottles, among others were sighted at the entrance to the Oyo state secretariat blocked a portion of the road linking Bodija to Secretariat axis with burn fire.

The windows of a Branch of Wema Bank located at Gate was Destroyed by this angry Youths.

At the Oyo state Government Secretariat, the protesters clashed with the security agents attached to the Secretariat during which a Police Inspector was injured.

The protest later spread to Mokola and Dugbe areas of the town with Okada riders and suspected hoodlums making bonfires forcing traders and passers-by in the areas to scamper for safety.

Following the protests, commercial banks and other shops in markets across Ibadan hurriedly close for business with the banks asking their customers to leave the banking hall for security reasons.

Security agents including armed policemen were stationed at strategic locations in and around Ibadan.
