Computer Village scam LAGOS, NIGERIA β€” Just three weeks after arriving in Lagos, two young men reportedly from the Igbo ethnic group were caught in a daring scam at the bustling Computer Village, Ikeja. The duo allegedly used a fake bank transfer to attempt purchasing four iPhones worth ₦5 million.According to eyewitnesses, the suspects walked into a popular phone outlet and requested four iPhones. They presented what appeared to be a legitimate bank transfer confirmation for the payment. However, suspicious dealers quickly verified the transaction and discovered it was fraudulent.

“We initially believed the payment was real, but something didn’t add up. We checked the transfer and realized it was fake. We immediately detained the suspects and called the authorities,” a Computer Village dealer told Sojworldnews.

The incident underscores ongoing challenges faced by traders in major Nigerian markets, where cyber-enabled fraud and fake transaction scams have become increasingly common. Market sources urge all dealers to exercise caution, especially with new customers offering digital payments.

Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding arrests or further investigations. It remains unclear if the suspects acted alone or were part of a larger network.

Computer Village, Ikeja, is known as Africa’s largest tech hub, attracting thousands of buyers and sellers daily. While it is a hub for genuine business, this recent event highlights the risks associated with high-value transactions.
