Adeleke Accord Party arrest — Governor Ademola Adeleke dropped a bombshell in Osogbo on Tuesday evening. He accused the police of plotting to arrest Accord Party leaders and whisk them away to Abuja before Saturday’s governorship election. The governor made the claim during an emergency press conference, and he did not mince words.
“We have a credible report that a police signal has arrived in Osun State, directing the arrest of Accord Party leaders, their transfer to Abuja, and detention until Monday, after the governorship election,” Adeleke told reporters. In other words, the governor believes security agencies want his party’s leadership out of the picture until voting ends.

Beyond the alleged arrest order, the governor also demanded swift action against Senator Francis Fadahunsi. A viral video appears to show the lawmaker calling for violence against Accord Party members. Consequently, Adeleke wants the senator arrested and prosecuted without delay. He described the video as deeply troubling, since it allegedly urges supporters to target Accord Party leaders and even their families if the leaders cannot be found.
“The second issue has to do with the viral video of a serving Senator, Francis Fadahunsi, who today called for the killing of Accord Party leaders, supporters and their families,” Adeleke said. He therefore called on the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, to investigate the remarks immediately and to guarantee the safety of Accord Party members and their supporters.
According to the governor, the matter goes far beyond party rivalry. He framed it instead as a national security concern, particularly given the alleged threat to families. Meanwhile, Adeleke pointed to a broader pattern of what he called unlawful detentions. He claimed that more than 62 Accord Party leaders currently sit in police custody without formal charges, and he linked the detentions to the activities of the Intelligence Response Team.
“We demand that the IGP enforce due process and fair policing by aborting all anti-people plots against democracy in Osun State,” Adeleke stated. He further urged security agencies to uphold the rule of law before, during, and after the election, adding that officers took an oath to serve the public rather than any political faction.
Regarding the alleged arrest signal specifically, Adeleke said he has already reached out to the Inspector-General of Police for clarification. “I have spoken to the Inspector-General of Police about the reported directive to arrest Accord Party leaders. But I am appealing to him that this development, if true, is illegal and presents Nigeria as a lawless country,” he explained. He also argued that such an operation would effectively let the police help the All Progressives Congress rig the election.
Meanwhile, tension continues to build across Osun State as Saturday’s vote approaches. The Imole Campaign Council, which backs Adeleke’s re-election bid, has separately reported that officers detained a House of Representatives candidate along with three other party members. The council has since petitioned the National Human Rights Commission over the arrests, and it insists the crackdown reflects a coordinated effort to weaken Accord Party structures before voters head to the polls.
For now, the police have not issued a public response to Adeleke’s allegations. Nevertheless, both claims raise serious questions about the fairness of Saturday’s contest, and Osun residents will likely watch closely for any official reaction in the coming days.
