Akpabio Reveals Creation Of Anioma State ASABA, NIGERIA – March 26, 2026 – Senate President Godswill Akpabio has revealed plans for the creation of Anioma State, with Asaba proposed as the capital and Warri expected to become the capital of Delta State if the proposal is approved.

Akpabio made this known during the All Progressives Congress (APC) South-South zonal congress held in Asaba, Delta State.

He assured party members and stakeholders that the National Assembly is committed to constitutional reforms, including state creation, to improve governance and regional development.

Akpabio Reveals Creation Of Anioma State: Akpabio Speaks On Anioma State

Speaking at the APC South-South Congress, Akpabio expressed strong support for the proposed Anioma State.

He explained that the proposal is part of ongoing constitutional amendment efforts in the National Assembly.

The Senate President noted that the process would follow constitutional procedures and involve stakeholders across the country.

The proposal for Anioma State is being championed by Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North Senatorial District.

Akpabio Reveals Creation Of Anioma State: Ned Nwoko Gives Update On State Creation

Senator Ned Nwoko has repeatedly stated that the proposed Anioma State has strong legislative support.

According to him, the proposal has gained national attention and support from lawmakers.

Nwoko said, “Only one state will be created in Nigeria, and that one state will be Anioma.”

He added, “We have done our homework. A lot of lobbying, contacts, and consultations are ongoing. Nothing is being left undone.” 2

The senator also explained that many lawmakers and stakeholders support the creation of Anioma State because it will improve regional balance and development.

Asaba To Remain Capital Of Proposed Anioma State

Nwoko and his team have maintained that Asaba will remain the capital of the proposed Anioma State.

Official documents from the Anioma State Creation Bill clearly designate Asaba as the capital.

This clarification was made to address rumours and misinformation about possible relocation of the capital. 3

Warri Proposed As Delta Capital

Akpabio also indicated that Warri could serve as the capital of Delta State if Anioma State is created.

The move is aimed at ensuring balanced development and administrative efficiency in the region.

Stakeholders believe the restructuring will strengthen governance and improve resource distribution.

Constitutional Process Required

However, the creation of Anioma State is still a proposal.

It must pass through constitutional amendment, National Assembly approval, and endorsement by state assemblies.

Finally, the President must sign the bill into law before the state can be officially created.

Until then, Anioma State remains a proposed state under legislative consideration.
