Nigeria’s Finance Minister Wale Edun has suffered a severe stroke and been flown abroad for urgent medical treatment, SaharaReporters reported on Sunday, October 12, 2025.

According to sources, Edun’s condition is described as “very serious,” with severe paralysis, and he’s receiving intensive medical attention overseas.

President Bola Tinubu has begun discreet consultations to identify a possible replacement for Edun, citing the minister’s crucial role in the administration’s economic management team.

No official replacement has been announced, but Olayemi Cardoso, the Governor of the Central Bank, has been named to lead Nigeria’s delegation to the World Bank and International Monetary Fund Annual Meeting in Washington DC.
