Simon Ekpa, a pro-Biafra agitator, has been sentenced to six years in prison by the Päijät-Häme District Court in Finland for terrorism offenses.
The court found him guilty of inciting terrorism, participating in the activities of a terrorist group, aggravated tax fraud, and violating the provisions of the Attorneys Act.
Ekpa used his significant social media following to stoke tensions in Nigeria’s Southeast region between August 2021 and November 2024.

He supplied certain groups with weapons, explosives, and ammunition through his network of contacts in the region.
Ekpa encouraged his followers on social media platform X to commit crimes in Nigeria.
Ekpa is a self-acclaimed disciple of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), but IPOB distanced itself from Ekpa’s activities after his dismissal from Radio Biafra.
Ekpa was arrested in November 2024 and subsequently sent to prison for spreading terrorist propaganda on social media.
The Finnish National Bureau of Investigation investigated him for allegations of inciting terrorism and promoting violence through social media, which contributed to unrest in southeastern Nigeria.
