The lawmaker representing Ijesa North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Busayo Oluwole Oke, has queried the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) over the prolonged delay in conducting local government elections in the state.
In a pointed remark, he asked, “OSSIEC, when is our next local government election?”

Referencing the situation in Rivers State, where elections are currently underway following a Supreme Court decision, Hon. Oluwole Oke lamented the legal stagnation in Osun State.
He noted that the Supreme Court could have resolved the ongoing issues if the Osun State Government and OSSIEC had appealed the February 10, 2025, Court of Appeal ruling, which reinstated All Progressives Congress (APC) elected council officials.

The federal lawmaker criticised what he described as selective obedience to court rulings. “As a party or a state, you cannot cherry-pick which court judgments to obey. Every ruling is important when delivered on matters brought before the judiciary,” he emphasized, calling for fairness and consistency in upholding the rule of law.
Hon. Oluwole Oke further highlighted that peaceful coexistence is a prerequisite for meaningful development in any society. He warned that the state risks political instability if court rulings continue to be disregarded and democratic processes delayed.
Looking ahead to the 2026 Osun gubernatorial election scheduled for August 8, Hon. Oluwole Oke disclosed that APC aspirants are already actively campaigning across the state’s 30 local government areas and the area office. “When we win, I hope no one will come out to allege rigging,” he concluded.
