CP Ibrahim Gotan resignation OSOGBO – A certified criminologist and investigative journalist, Sodiq Lawal Chocomilo, has renewed his call for the resignation of Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, following another reported killing allegedly linked to political thugs in the state.
Chocomilo made the call barely 36 hours after issuing an open letter demanding the police commissioner’s resignation over what he described as negligence and gross irresponsibility in the aftermath of the killing of a 14-year-old boy in Ilobu.
According to him, political thugs have now claimed another life, further deepening concerns about insecurity and the inability of law enforcement authorities to restore order.
“A young man and resident of Esa-Oke identified only as Rogba has been murdered in cold blood. Rogba, a father of four from Esa-Oke, was reportedly killed in front of his father’s house. His wife and young children watched him die, gasping for life,” Chocomilo stated.
“The photos are gory and painful, but they tell the truth. This cycle of bloodshed continues while the police leadership appears unbothered.”

Furthermore, Chocomilo argued that the latest killing demonstrates what he described as the failure of the current police leadership to effectively secure lives and property in Osun State.
“The killing of a father of four is another sad occurrence that shows CP Ibrahim Gotan’s command is no longer able to secure the state. Political thugs have overwhelmed his tactics. What is missing is not just expertise but the will to act. If I were in his position, resignation would be the honorable path. Posterity beckons,” he said.
Meanwhile, the criminologist criticized individuals who recently staged a vote of confidence in the commissioner despite also expressing concerns over the rise in politically motivated violence.
“I demanded CP Ibrahim Gotan’s resignation over glaring negligence. In response, some left-wing comrades who are friends of thugs and enablers of political violence under the guise of patriots took to the streets of Osogbo to pass a vote of confidence on him,” he said.
“Ironically, those same people also protested the surge in political killings across the state. One cannot affirm and condemn at the same time.”
Chocomilo further warned against what he described as the growing influence of political thugs operating alongside security agencies in the state.
“Political thugs and the police must no longer act as parallel enforcers in Osun State. The open display of guns, cutlasses and axes, coupled with continuous bloodshed, undermines police authority and reduces the security agency to a mere figurehead,” he stated.
He expressed concern that two people had reportedly been killed within the last 36 hours, insisting that the trend reflects a worsening security situation.
“These criminals are not ghosts. They move freely in broad daylight and mock the families of their victims. It is alarming that at least six people have been killed by political thugs in the last 14 days, yet the police have not arrested a single suspect,” he alleged.
“This confirms my position that CP Ibrahim Gotan lacks the capacity to steer the police toward real security and stability.”
Consequently, Chocomilo urged the commissioner to take responsibility and resign.
“It is time for CP Ibrahim Gotan to take responsibility for this failure, act with integrity and resign honorably. He has failed the people of Osun,” he declared.
“The Osun State Police Command must stop making excuses while young people continue to be murdered in cold blood by non-state actors.”
