THE Ibadan-Ife- Ilesha highway has now become a death trap going by the number of accidents and deaths recorded on almost on a daily basis.
On Sunday, March 23, 2025 five students of the Osun State University (UNIOSUN) and five others died from drivers driving recklessly against the traffic.
The students who were going to Ibadan after a short break had siblings among the casualties.
Just last week, two people lost their lives while many others were injured.

There are many accidents that was not recorded that has claimed many lives.
This is a major highway linking major states and cities to Abuja and northern states, South South and Eastern States.
The State of the road is getting worse daily making motorists to drive against traffic, this has always resulted into avoidable accidents claiming lives of travellers along the highway.
It is more dangerous to drive at night along the road because some of these drivers driving against traffic do not have functional headlamps on their vehicles.

After Babatunde Fashola rehabilitated few kilometers of the section of the highway at Ikire axis through SUKUK loan, it has been left untouched by the Federal Ministry of Works.
It was announced at the time that rehabilitation of the highway was awarded. We are yet to understand why the highway is still in state of disrepair with potholes criminals can capitalize on to abduct innocent travellers.
This is to use this opportunity to urgently call on the Minister of Works, David Umahi to come to the aid of travellers along this route before it is too late.
Useful time have been wasted on daily basis and daily economic loss to business men and women traveling along the highway as a result of bad sections of the highway.
