Dokubo recalls meeting Sultan of Sokoto: Mujahid Asari Dokubo, the Amanyanabo of Torusarama Piri in Degema, has shared a vivid account of meeting the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III after his release from detention.

During a Facebook live session on February 13, 2026, Dokubo described walking into an Abuja hotel. To his surprise, he saw everyone lying on the ground, shaking the Sultan, crawling in a display of deep respect.

“Everybody was lying on the ground shaking him, crawling,” Dokubo said. “It was a moment I will never forget.”

Despite the overwhelming reverence, Dokubo chose not to bow. He shook the Sultan’s hand as a proud traditional leader. According to him, the Sultan welcomed his gesture and later spoke with him privately.

Dokubo also recounted a similar experience with the Ooni of Ife, where he maintained his posture in the presence of other dignitaries. These experiences, he said, reminded him of the importance of identity and respect.

This revelation adds to the ongoing conversations about traditional respect, leadership, and personal principles in Nigeria’s cultural and political landscape.
