The naira held steady against the dollar on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. Both the official and parallel markets moved only slightly. Meanwhile, crypto traders watched Bitcoin hover near $83,400. This report covers the latest rates for the dollar, pound, euro and Canadian dollar, plus the top cryptocurrencies.

Central Bank of Nigeria data shows the naira closed at ₦1,332.99 per dollar at the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) on Monday, October 12. That is the latest published close. The currency traded at ₦1,331.19 on October 9, so it lost less than one naira. Therefore, the official market stays calm, and the rate has remained within a narrow band.

The parallel market tells a slightly different story. Bureau de change operators in Lagos buy the dollar at ₦1,365 and sell it at about ₦1,373. Vanguard reports that dealers quote ₦1,365 for buying and ₦1,375 for selling, although rates “may vary by location and dealer.” In addition, some aggregators list a higher selling rate near ₦1,390. As a result, the gap between the two markets stands at roughly ₦40 per dollar.

British Pound (GBP)Not published₦1,850₦1,880

Canadian Dollar (CAD)Not published₦991₦1,000

At those rates, $100 costs about ₦133,299 at the official rate and about ₦137,300 on the street. Consequently, buyers who reach the official window save around ₦4,000 on every $100. However, most retail customers still rely on bureau de change operators.

Other currencies also trade at a premium on the street. Dealers sell the pound at about ₦1,880 and the euro at ₦1,590. The Canadian dollar sells at ₦1,000. These figures come from one aggregator that also lists a higher dollar rate. Therefore, expect them to run slightly above the quotes at some dealers.

Bitcoin (BTC)$83,400
Ethereum (ETH)$2,503
Tether (USDT)$0.99
BNB$743
XRP$1.37
Solana (SOL)$107

Crypto markets stayed cautious. Investing.com reported that Bitcoin held above $83,000 and sat “roughly 34% below its record high.” Ethereum trades near $2,503, while BNB sits around $743. XRP changes hands near $1.37, and Solana near $107. Tether holds its dollar peg at about $0.99.

Analysts blame the soft mood on cooling ETF demand. Furthermore, CryptoTicker says rising Bitcoin dominance points to a defensive market rather than a panicked one. Ethereum has also lost about 7 percent over the past week. Still, CoinDesk notes that Bitcoin edged toward $84,000 after a Federal Reserve official said he sees no rate hikes in 2027.

Readers should treat all black market figures as guides. Rates change hourly and differ by city and dealer. Therefore, confirm the price with your dealer before you trade. In addition, crypto prices swing sharply, so never invest more than you can afford to lose. This report is information only and does not offer financial advice.

Sojworldnews will update these rates as the CBN publishes new figures. Meanwhile, check back tomorrow for the next currency report.
