He said now that Prof Mahmoud Yakubu’s tenure as INEC National Chairman has expired, it is imperative and important for Mr. President to make a firm decision to appoint INEC Chairman from the Southwest or North Central before the heat up to the 2027 general elections.

The former Osun State Governorship Candidate, 2022 Election and Incumbent State Chairman, BECAUSE OF OUR TOMORROW (BOOT) PARTY, Osun Chapter said he made the call because other regions except the Southwest and North Central have either been appointed once or twice since Nigeria’s Independence in 1960.

This is my subtle reminder of my earlier advice to President Tinubu few Weeks ago that only two zones, the Southwest and North Central have never produced the National Chairman of INEC since 1960.

Mr President should do the needful for the any of the two zones to be appointed the National Chairman, now since Prof Yakubu’s Tenure has just lapsed.” Masilo said.

He gave names and regions where National Chairmen have been appointed.

Nigeria has had 12 Electoral Commission
(NEC) chairmen since first republic.

He continued with his submission reiterating his call on President Tinubu to appoint the National Chairman from any of the two regions.

He suggested four names of those who have successfully held the positions at the state levels.

There are only two zones Mr President can pick INEC Chairman according to the Federal Character system in Nigeria, namely the Southwest and the North Central.

I am seizing this golden opportunity to advise and suggest that Mr President should pick a qualified person from the South West or the North Central as incoming INEC National Chairman now that the tenure of current Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu has lapsed.

The following people had been tested, trusted and found reliable as former Osun State RECS in the Past, provided if anyone of them are still agile to do the Assignment now. Namely:

1. Dr Rufus Akeju (Lagos State) South West.

2. Dr Olusegun Agbaje (Kogi State) North Central.

3. Dr Ogunmola (Oyo State) Southwest.

     4. Dr. Mutiu Agboke (Ogun State) Southwest.

For equity, fairness and equal participation and in order not to alienate any region against the other, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should please do the needful.”  He concluded.
