Let me tell you story of how Kanu’s ESN/Unknown Gunmen set ablaze his house with his library 📚 and the man died later in anguish
My brothers and sisters, Dr. Chu Okongwu; Nnewi born former National Planning and Finance Ministers is gone.
Dr. Okongwu served as Minister of Finance, Minister of National Planning and Minister of Petroleum & Mineral Resources under the government of General Ibrahim Babangida.

Dr. Chu Okongwu’s service to Nigeria was without any blemish and was devoid of the insatiable greed that our public servants have become known for many decades now, most unfortunately.
Chu Okongwu was born on September 23, 1934 in Nnewi, Anambra State.
An economist, Okongwu studied Economic theory at Boston University, USA. He completed the degree in 1961. He also attended Harvard University, USA from 1961 to 1965.
On Sunday, October 3, 2021, Kanu’s IPOB built ESN/unknown gunmen came to Nnewi shooting sporadically. It was a time they have scared away police having set ablaze almost all the police stations within Nnewi area of the state.

They went straight to Federal Road safety building and set it ablaze with DSS building and some buildings within same area.
They burnt down Dr. Chu Okongwu’s house in his village, Umudim Nnewi, in Nnewi, Nnewi North LGA, Anambra State, Nigeria.
If you understand Igbo culture, Igbo man prepare his retirement in his village and Dr Chu Okonkwu was not different.
At 87, he was already at home 🏠 in line with Igbo culture. He was well respected. He was never noisy or the type that disturb the community or the people because of his profile, not Dr Chu Okonkwu. Researchers visit him from all over Nigeria and beyond and also access his library 📚.

Sadly, the octogenarian never recovered from that tragedy and died shortly.
That house was more than a building to him. Aside being his country home, it housed his personal library, one of the best libraries in this part of the world. All the books in the library were burnt down. Every material there was lost.
Anyone who knew Dr. Okongwu knows that there was no Chu without his books. He actually died the day that house was senselessly burnt. He never recovered from the tragedy.
Today, the history is watching us as some persons want us to celebrate perpetrators of these atrocities.
But we said No! We won’t celebrate them for this!
We will continue to call for their prosecutions!
