Ijegun NEPA incident Lagos – Residents of Ijegun, a community in Lagos State, have raised serious concerns following a disturbing incident that reportedly occurred in the early hours of March 10, 2026, on Lafunke Street.
According to eyewitnesses in the area, officials believed to be electricity workers attached to Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) arrived at the street early in the morning to disconnect electricity supply to a residential compound.
The officials reportedly arrived in a vehicle with registration number KRD-999XRLagos.
However, residents claim the disconnection happened without prior notice to tenants living in the compound. This immediately triggered questions and complaints from several occupants who were surprised by the sudden power disconnection.
Ijegun NEPA incident Lagos: How The Incident Allegedly Happened
Witnesses said the situation escalated shortly after the officials completed the disconnection and began leaving the area in their vehicle.
According to residents, one of the tenants, a young filmmaker identified as Mr. Giwa, attempted to question the workers — identified by residents as Mr. Kelvin and his colleagues — about the sudden action and why no notice had been given to the tenants.
Eyewitnesses claimed that Mr. Giwa tried to stop the officials from leaving in order to get clarification about the disconnection.
However, residents alleged that during the confrontation, Mr. Giwa was pushed out of the moving vehicle.
Witnesses further claimed that the situation became even more frightening when the vehicle reportedly sped off while the young filmmaker was still close to it, almost running him over.

Community members are now calling for a thorough investigation into what exactly happened.
Many residents believe that electricity disconnections should always be handled with clear communication, proper notice and professionalism to avoid confrontations.
Questions Over Prior Communication
Meanwhile, residents also revealed that electricity officials allegedly visited the compound a day earlier on March 9 and reportedly spoke with the house caretaker.

This has led to accusations of negligence and lack of transparency within the building’s management.

Residents are now urging both the electricity company and security authorities to investigate the matter and ensure accountability.

Across several communities, disputes over electricity bills, estimated billing, disconnections and power supply interruptions have often led to heated confrontations between residents and electricity officials.
Community members in Ijegun are therefore calling for transparency, professionalism and justice as investigations into the alleged incident continue.
