Sources said the deceased had checked into the hotel earlier in the day, accompanied by two women, identified as Khadija Ali (34) from Dutsin Amare Quarters, Katsina and Aisha Lawal (30) from Ingawa Local Government Area. A third woman, Hafsat Yusuf (22) from Brigade Quarters, Kano, was said to have joined them later in the night.
Investigators reportedly found empty sachets of unidentified substances in a wastebasket inside the room, raising suspicion that the officer might have ingested or inhaled the contents before his death.
The women, who were at the hotel during the incident, have reportedly been detained by police for questioning as part of ongoing investigations to determine their possible link to the death.
The officer’s body was later conveyed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Katsina, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel before being moved to the mortuary for autopsy.
As of press time, neither the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) nor the Katsina State Police Command has issued an official statement confirming the exact cause of death or the outcome of forensic tests.
