Meanwhile, the students leadership raised concern over incessant attacks on the students in recent times saying they are no longer safe.

A Press Release captioned, “We Are Not Safe” issued a distress call following the armed robbery attacks on the continuation of security breakdown.

In a viral video at the scene of the incident, it was reported that the police came after the robbers have already escaped while the vigilante around had no bullets in their gun to attacked the robbers.

We Are Not Safe:
The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) student community is issuing a critical distress call following a terrifying armed robbery attack last night at Oreoluwa Hostel in Moremi Estate.

While this is the first major incident this new session, it marks the continuation of a security breakdown that traumatized students with back-to-back attacks just last semester.

Our fear is compounded by the fact that Oreoluwa Hostel has been repeatedly targeted in the past. This history, combined with the extreme danger we face, proves that our lives and academic careers are in constant jeopardy:

Failure of Response: During the attack last night, the local response was severely inadequate. Three police officers arrived long after the criminals had fled.

Defenseless Community: The vigilante groups meant to protect us are functionally useless, with reports indicating their weapons have no live ammunition.

Students are left to face armed gangs defenseless.

Missing Student Tragedy: The situation is made more tragic by the case of the OAU student who was kidnapped two months ago and remains missing to date.

We cannot accept living in an environment where our safety hinges on sheer luck. We demand that the state government and security agencies treat this as a systemic failure requiring immediate, decisive action before another tragedy occurs.

We are students, and we demand the right to live and study in safety. Action must be taken now.
