JUST IN: Court sentence six men to prison in Osun for impersonation as Kingmakers (SEE NAMES)

The Osun State high Court, sitting Osogbo presided by Honourable Justice Sikiru Oke today sentences (6) six men to prison for parading themselves as kingmakers and member of Ataoja in council by installing one Chief Oladunjoye Abdullahi as Baale of Irepodun Community, Osogbo.

The news of the conviction made available to SOJ WORLDWIDE, http://www.sojworldnews.com by the Information Officer, Ministry of Justice, Opeyemi Bello said the six men were sent to six months imprisonment.

The Convicts are Akande Suleiman, Chief Oladunjoye Abdullahi, Isiaka Balogun, Prince Lateef Jayeola, Basiru Odomode and Adesina Oriyomi.

Prosecution Counsel from the Ministry of Justice Moses Faremi told the court that convicts and other at large on 25 day of January, 2017 at about noon at Irepodun Oke-Osun, Osogbo conspired to commit misdemeanors to wit conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable understand section 517, 249, of the criminal Code Law Cap 34 volume11 Laws of Osun State.

Faremi said Akande Suleiman and four (4) others performed the duty statutory and traditionally meant to be performed by Ataoja and his council members.

Also said chief Oladunjoye allowed himself to be installed and paraded himself as Baale of Irepodun Community, Osogbo without the consent of prescribed authority of incumbent Ataoja of Osogbo.

Prosecution Counsel called five witnesses including Oba Jimoh Olanipekun the Ataoja of Osogbo and inspector Oketunde Kuburat also tender seventeen (17) exhibits to proof his case.

The Ataoja of Osogbo Oba Jimoh Olanipekun stated at the court “that while he preparing to install Baale of Irepodun, he got a report that some people are installing another Baale at Irepodun and Akande Suleiman from Alaran’s compound, Osogbo made himself a kingmaker with some set of people and installed another person as Baale”.

Meanwhile convicts testified by themselves.

Defendant Counsel Barrister Soji Oyetayo told the court that there was no eye witness of the purported event evidence given by Adewale Sikiru that claimed to have visited the said Irepodun Community on 26 day of January,2017 or thereabout in his evidence in chief that he saw the Defendants in a hall installing chief Oladunjoye Abdullahi as a Baale which was not stated in his extra judicial statement made when when the event was fresher in his memory.

Oyetayo told the court not to relied on such evidence and urged court to resolve the sole issue formulated in favor of the Defendants.

In his judgement Justice Oke said prosecution Counsel has proof his case beyond a reasonable doubt and found them guilty on four counts and sentence them to nine months imprisonment.
