Golden Oldies is remembering Nigeria’s Foremost Newscasters Tokunbo Ajayi on her death today (August 18, 2000). Olatokunbo Ajayi was a seasoned broadcaster.

Ebony black, graceful and elegant, she had a charismatic persona that seemed to attract people to her.

And coupled with her good command of English, Tokunbo Ajayi was one of the best female newscasters of the 90s. She usually read the NTA (Nigeria Television Authority) News at 7pm and also paired with a male colleague to read the Network News at 9pm.

Tokunbo Ajayi story is quite tragic. Tokunbo Ajayi died in London, England on August 18, 2000. Tokunbo was 37 years old when she died. Armed robbers invaded her house at night.

The matter was reported to the police. The police later caught the robbers and they confessed that they carried out the robbery and raped someone while they were in the house (the police were surprised because only the robbery was reported to them).

Tokunboh Ajayi was later found dead in her flat in London. Rip.
