MTN, a telecommunications company operating in several African and Asian countries, has announced a change in its recharge activation and data bundle codes. The new code for recharge activation is 311 recharge pin#, replacing the former 555 recharge pin#. Likewise, the new code for data bundle activation is *312#, replacing *131#.
MTN has also introduced a new data bundle code, *312#, that will replace the previous *131# used to activate data bundles.

REASON FOR THE CHANGE:
No reason was given for the change in codes. However, MTN encourages its customers to start using the new codes for convenience.
MTN’S SUBSCRIBER BASE:
As of December 2020, MTN recorded 280 million subscribers, making it the 8th largest mobile network operator globally and the largest in Africa. The company operates in over 20 countries, with Nigeria contributing one-third of its revenue, where it holds about 35% market share.
MTN’s change in recharge activation and data bundle codes will require its customers to adopt new codes for transactions. Nevertheless, this change is expected to improve the company’s service delivery and customer experience.
