According to the Nigerian Army, Olamilekan was not dismissed for speaking out. Instead, he was discharged for repeated acts of indiscipline and violation of military rules.

The Army explained that he breached the Armed Forces Social Media Policy and engaged in unauthorized media appearances. As a result, he faced disciplinary action in line with military regulations.

Nigerian Army denies ex-soldier poor welfare claims: Army Defends Salary Structure

The Nigerian Army also defended its salary and welfare structure. It said soldiers receive monthly salaries based on rank and years of service.

In addition, personnel receive several allowances. These include uniform allowance, ration allowance, and operational allowances.

According to the Army, these payments are processed through official financial systems to ensure transparency. Therefore, claims that soldiers are not paid properly are incorrect.

Operational Troops Receive Extra Support

The Army further explained that troops deployed to operational areas receive additional welfare support. For example, soldiers in Operation HADIN KAI in the North-East get special operational allowances.

They also receive feeding support, accommodation, and mission-related logistics. This support is meant to improve their effectiveness and safety in the field.

Meanwhile, the Army said it continues to review welfare packages to meet modern military standards.

Uniforms and Equipment Are Provided

The Nigerian Army rejected claims that soldiers buy their own uniforms and equipment. It said uniforms, boots, and protective gear are supplied through official logistics channels.

However, the Army admitted that some personnel may choose to buy extra items for personal comfort. It stressed that such decisions are voluntary and not compulsory.

Therefore, the allegation that soldiers are forced to buy their own kits is misleading.

Army Warns Against Misinformation

The Nigerian Army urged Nigerians to avoid spreading unverified information. It warned that false claims could damage the image of the military and affect troop morale.

In addition, the Army said misinformation could undermine national security efforts. It called on the public to rely on official statements and verified reports.

The Army also reaffirmed its commitment to improving welfare, discipline, and operational readiness.

Public Debate Continues

Sojworldnews reports that the issue has sparked public debate on social media. Many Nigerians have been discussing the welfare and working conditions of soldiers.

However, the Nigerian Army maintains that its personnel are well supported and properly paid. It also promised to continue strengthening welfare systems for troops across the country.
