Omoniyi Ogunenika sent to prison for stealing car, iPhone 4

A 28-year-old computer engineer, Omoniyi Ogunenika has been arrested and charged before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court for allegedly sneaking inside the 1004 Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos to steal.

Despite the tight security, Ogunenika snuck into the estate to steal an iPhone 4 valued at N100, 000 and a Toyota Camry car valued at N3m belonging to the complainant, Mr. Adedokun Idris.

According to the police, nemesis caught up with the defendant when the vigilante security men on duty apprehended him as he made to escape with the stolen properties.

Following the incident, the security men sent a distress call to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the Bar beach Division, Victoria Island, Lagos who quickly dispatched his men led by Inspector Abimbola Ogunsoro to the scene to arrest the Defendant.

Ogunenika was charged before the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos on a three count of stealing.

Police Counsel, Mike Unar informed the Court in charged marked TC/47/2021 that the defendant committed the offence on 1 August, 2021 at about 21:00 hours at 1004 Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos after the complainant left home for work.

Unar told the court that the defendant broke and entered into a flat owned by the complainant to steal his iphone4 and Toyota Camry car all valued at N3,100,000 before he was apprehended by the vigilante security men at the estate as he made to escaped with the stolen properties.

Unar said the offences, committed was punishable under sections 411, 21 and 287 of the criminal law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and magistrate, A.T. Omoyele granted him N250,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

Omoyele adjourned the case till 21 October, 2021 for mention and ordered that the defendant be kept at the Ikoyi correctional centre till he perfected the bail conditions.
