OSUN State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Hon Kolapo Alimi, has reacted to the allegation of N3.7 billion fraud leveled against him during his tenure as the State Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs under the administration of former Governor Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.
Alimi in a Media chat with the Osun Online Publishers in his office at Abere, Osun State on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, told the journalists that he has never been a signatory to any Local Government accounts during the time.
Alimi added that Local Government joint account is not under the Commissioner but Director General of Finance.
It will be recalled that Adebayo Adeleke popularly known as Banik was alleged to have been awarded contracts he was not qualified to execute and that he did not resign immediately after he was appointed Commissioner under Gboyega Oyetola administration.
“If ALGON Chairman spent ALGON money how is that my concern? They would hear from my lawyer very soon to explain how money meant for ALGON becomes my problem.”
First and foremost, the allegations against Adeleke sent to the EFCC are true. This is not tit for tat. If they believe there is a case against me, they should file a petition before the EFCC instead of making noise in the media.”
“The money moved from the Local Government Account to security beefed up from Local Government account to ALGON account to Ibikem Construction and Akeem Ibitoye who owned the account, is the only signatory to the account.
Akeem Ibitoye is the Director of Finance of a Local Government.
If they have anything against me they should write their own petition.”
Alimi insisted he is approaching the court to clear his name they are trying to smear in order to divert public attention from the real issue of misappropriation of $20m grant for health that is hanging on their neck.
Alimi warned that if Banik refused to apologize and retract his “malicious and defamatory statement” he will go to court to claim damages.
“I saw this post this morning, the statement is credited to Abdulyekeen Adebayo Adeleke, Banik, the former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Osun state. Before now, many people have been calling to inform me about the statement.”
Below is the full statement:
I WANT TO CATEGORICALLY STATE THAT, THAT ALLEGATION IS FALSE, MALICIOUS AND DEFAMATORY, MADE SPECIFICALLY TO TARNISH MY IMAGE. THUS, I HEREBY DEMAND IMMEDIATE RETRACTION AND PUBLIC APOLOGY FROM BOTH ABDULYEKEEN ADEBAYO ADELEKE, BANIK WHO RAISED THE FALSE ALLEGATION AND JAMIU OLAWUMI WHO HELPED HIM TO SHARE IT, WITHIN 24 HOURS OR THEY SHOULD BE READY TO MEET ME IN COURT.
SIGNED,
OLUOMO KOLAPO ALIMI,
HON COMMISSIONER FOR INFORMATION AND PUBLIC ENLIGHTENMENT,
OSUN STATE.”
