
The development comes as Osun police arrests suspects linked to firearms and ritual-related crimes ahead of the festive season. The Osun State Police Command intensified operations to ensure peaceful Christmas and New Year celebrations across the state.
According to police authorities, intelligence-driven raids helped uncover criminal hideouts and black spots across several communities. As a result, officers arrested multiple suspects in separate operations.
Osun Police Arrests Suspects Over Illegal Firearms
The Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Monday. He said the operations followed directives from the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan.
According to the statement, officers arrested Alarape Wasiu on December 16. He resides in the Olorunsogo community within the Panada area of Ikire. Operatives found him in possession of an unlicensed single-barrel gun and three live cartridges.
However, Wasiu failed to provide a credible explanation for owning the firearm. Consequently, officers expanded the investigation to his village.

Following further checks, officers recovered another single-barrel gun at Baralola village via Ikire. Police said criminals often use such weapons to terrorize residents around Ikire and neighboring communities.
The command noted that intelligence gathering played a key role in locating the hidden firearm. Therefore, officers believe the arrest disrupted ongoing criminal activities in the area.
Police Arrests Suspects Linked to Human Remains
In a separate operation on December 3, Osun police arrests suspects in Ile-Ogbo, Iwo Local Government Area. Officers arrested Taiwo Ogunbode, 47, Thomas Ogo, 52, and Lateef Afeez, 30, following credible intelligence.
During the raid, police recovered disturbing items. These included human skin, suspected human bones, teeth, hair, and burial clothing. Officers also recovered charms, a small knife, suspected Indian hemp, and ₦127,000 cash.

According to Ojelabi, the suspects confessed to exhuming corpses from a Muslim cemetery at Gaa-Fulani, Ile-Ogbo. They admitted plans to use the human parts for money-making rituals.
Further investigation revealed the presence of a syndicate. Police said the group specialized in exhuming corpses for criminal purposes. As investigations continue, authorities have assured residents of firm action.
The command confirmed that all suspects will face prosecution after investigations conclude. Meanwhile, police urged citizens to report suspicious activities promptly.
