THE Concerned Youth of Ayegun Gbonmi, Osogbo Local Government Area has petitioned the Governor of Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke over planned “imposition of Unrightful Monarch” at Ayegun Gbonmi by the Ataoja of Osogbo.
The youths under the umbrella of Coalition of Youth Voice Movement, Osun State Chapter/Concerned Youth of Ayegun Gbonmi request that their rights be protected, respected and their customary law and traditions are respected.
In a Press Conference held in Osogbo on Thursday, May 15, 2025, the Concerned Youths in a petition signed by Femi Johnson and Secretary, Faruk Issa appealed to the Governor to intervene urgently to avert crisis.
“We, the concerned youth of Ayegun Gbonmi, humbly submit this petition to bring to your attention a pressing matter that affects the traditional governance and peace of our kingdom.
We are deeply concerned about the potential imposition of an unrightful monarch by the Ataoja of Osogbo land, which could disrupt the delicate balance of our traditional institutions and undermine the rights of our people.
Ayegun Gbonmi has a rich cultural heritage and a well-established traditional governance structure. However, we have been made to understand that the Ataoja of Osogbo land is planning to impose a monarch on our kingdom without due regard to our customs, traditions, and the law.
This proposed action would not only undermine our autonomy but also create tension and instability in our community.

GROUNDS FOR OUR APPEAL
1.The imposition of an unrightful monarch would infringe on our rights as a community to choose our own leaders and determine our own destiny.
2.The proposed action would disregard our customary law and traditions, which have been passed down through generations.
3.The imposition of an unrightful monarch could lead to conflict and instability in our community, which would undermine the peace and prosperity that we have enjoyed for so long.
We respectfully request that Your Excellency intervene in this matter and take necessary steps to:
1.Ensure that our rights as a community are protected and respected.
2. Ensure that our customary law and traditions are upheld and respected.
3.Prevent the imposition of an unrightful monarch on our kingdom.
In conclusion, We believe that Your Excellency’s intervention would be a timely and welcome development for our community. We look forward to your prompt attention to this matter and your support in ensuring the continued peace and prosperity of Ayegun Gbonmi.”
Also speaking with our Correspondent, Comrade Olabalogun Oluwaseyi added that “the group has issued a month ultimatum to the State Government to intervene on the matter, if no intervention by the end of the ultimatum a peaceful demonstration will be held”.
When contacted, the Secretary to the Ataoja, Mr Wasiu Olawale Bello said the matter has been taken to Court and the Palace is not ready to speak on it.
