Adam Didn’t Eat an Apple, Says Pastor Ibiyeomie: See What Made God Drive Him Out of Eden
Pastor David Ibiyeomie, founder of Salvation Ministries, has offered a surprising answer to an old question: what sin did Adam commit in the Garden of Eden? In a sermon clip, Pastor Ibiyeomie rejected the popular belief that Adam ate an apple. Instead, he said Adam touched the tithe, the one thing God told him not to touch. Moreover, he argued that the same mistake affects believers today.
Ibiyeomie opened with a series of questions. What exactly did Adam do, he asked, to make God so angry that He drove him out of the garden? He urged listeners to think carefully about the story, because it raises questions that people rarely ask. “He didn’t commit a dirty thing,” he said. “He did not eat apple.”

According to Ibiyeomie, Adam touched the tithe. God had set one thing apart as His own, the pastor said, and He told Adam plainly: this one is yours, but this one is mine, so do not touch it. Adam crossed that line, Ibiyeomie argued, and that act led to his removal from Eden.
Ibiyeomie then turned the lesson on his listeners. “Every time you touch your tithe, you are living in dishonesty,” he said. He told them that anyone who touches what God has set aside is playing with the very thing God warned them to leave alone.
Ibiyeomie’s view differs from the common reading of Genesis. Most Christian traditions teach that Adam and Eve ate fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, which God had forbidden. However, the Bible never names the fruit, and the apple comes from later tradition. Therefore, the pastor’s point that Scripture does not mention an apple holds up, although churches differ on how to describe Adam’s sin.
Taken together, the message urges believers to take honesty with God seriously, and it uses the story of Eden to make the point. Readers should treat the claim as the pastor’s own interpretation, not a settled teaching. In the end, each believer will weigh it against his or her own reading of the Bible.
