Police arrest Okada rider in Ondo – Residents of Akure are in shock after police arrested an Okada rider accused of raping five females at gunpoint in Ondo State. The suspect allegedly used his motorcycle to lure victims before attacking them. The incident has raised serious safety concerns among residents, especially female passengers.

Police Arrest Okada Rider in Ondo After Intelligence Operation

The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the arrest of Olamipekun Elegbeleye. He is suspected of serial rape and robbery across Akure, the state capital.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, officers arrested the suspect after receiving credible intelligence. Police tracked him through technical surveillance. Eventually, operatives located his hideout and arrested him without resistance.

Police explained that the suspect operated as a commercial motorcyclist. He allegedly targeted female passengers who needed transportation within the city.

How the Okada Rider Allegedly Carried Out the Attacks

Investigations showed that the suspect allegedly lured victims by offering them rides. However, instead of taking them to their destinations, he reportedly diverted into isolated locations and nearby bushes.

Police revealed that one of the attacks occurred on November 21, 2025. The suspect allegedly offered a woman a ride to Afunbiowo Housing Estate in Oke Aro. He later diverted into a bush where he raped her at gunpoint. He also reportedly robbed her of valuables.

Furthermore, investigators discovered that the suspect allegedly repeated the same method to attack four other victims. Authorities believe the suspect carefully selected quiet locations to avoid detection.

Items Recovered from the Okada Rider

Police recovered several items believed to belong to the victims. These items include:

  • Two SIM cards
  • Two iPhones
  • A shirt linked to the suspect
  • Opay ATM card
  • Moniepoint ATM card

Investigators also discovered that the suspect allegedly transferred money from a victim’s account into another account without permission.

Police Reassure Residents and Issue Safety Warning

Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, reassured residents about their safety. He stressed that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property.

He also warned that offenders involved in violent and sexual crimes would face prosecution. Meanwhile, the police urged residents to remain alert. They advised passengers to avoid isolated routes and verify commercial riders before boarding.
