Protesters burn down Bishop Kukah’s Catholic Church in Sokoto

Some irate Protesters have burnt down the Catholic Diocese in Sokoto headed by Bishop Mathew Kukahy. 

Several protesters flooded the streets of the state to express displeasure against the arrest of some individuals responsible for the killing of a christian student, Deborah Samuel.

The Church, St Bakhita, which serves as the secretariat of the diocese, situated along Aliyu Jodi road was set ablaze. It can be recalled that Bishop Kukah severely condemned the killing of Samuel and called for justice.

Bishop Kukah however has been evacuated as he confirmed to journalists that he was on his way out of the state when contacted on phone.

However, the state governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has imposed a curfew to curtail the spread of Violence. Ms Samuels, a student of the Shehu Shagari college of Education was gruesomely murdered last Thursday on allegations of blaspheming Prophet Muhammad(SAW).

The killing has been widely condemned.
