Reggae Superstar, Singer Of ‘Send Down The Rain’ MAJEK FASHEK Is Dead

Nigerian international reggae superstar and instrumentalist, the singer of top hit, Send Down The Rain in1988, Mr Majekodunmi Fasheke popularly known as MAJEK FASHEK is dead at the age of 57.

His death was announced by his longtime Manager, Umenka Uzoma Day on his Instagram Page on Tuesday, June 2, 2020

Majek was plagued by a mysterious drug related illness for many years.

“Today been having pressure calls, well it is true that the African No 1 Legendary ICON has gone to be with the LORD his Maker, Day said.

“Let celebrate him, his achievements, and his family, whatever decisions made by his immediate family will be notified.”

Majek started his career in the early 80s at the Anthony Village, Japex Studio with the likes of Ras Kimono, The Mandators, Funmi Omosebi Snr. Georgy.

Makek started with the group Jastix, he went solo and released his debut single Prisoner of Conscience in 1988.

The album was released to massive success and had the popular record ‘Send Down the Rain’.

Several successes followed until heavy drug and bankruptcy affected his career.

Although he made several comebacks, Majek never remanned the same again.

Editor’s Note:  Majek Fashek was a gifted and talented artiste who plays guitar, organ, drums with dexterity, unfortunately he took to hard drugs that eventually ruined his life and career.

All efforts to rehabilitate him by good Samaritans failed. 

His colleague and friend, Ras Kimono slumped and died at the Lagos International Airport on his way to perform at the United States few years ago.

May God give his loved ones the courage to bear this irreparable loss.

Majek will be greatly missed with his sonorous voice in Send Down The Rain, Prisoner of Conscience.
