AN Army officer, Lieutenant Samson Haruna, has di.ed from severe burns after his wife allegedly set him ablaze during a domestic quarrel in Akwa Ibom State.

The incident reportedly occurred on September 22, 2025, at the Wellington Bassey Barracks in Ibagwa, Abak Local Government Area.

Counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama disclosed the development in a post on X on Tuesday.

According to sources cited by Makama, the officer, a Medical Doctor serving as the Regimental Medical Officer with the 6 Battalion had a heated argument with his wife, Mrs. Samson Haruna, during which she allegedly poured petrol on him and ignited it.

Further information emerging from a family member of Lt. (Dr) Samuel Haruna revealed that the deadly dispute that led to his death arose after she found a text message on his phone purportedly from a woman.

The family source said that despite the deceased’s denial that he was having any affair, the jealous wife decided to carry out the dastardly act while he was asleep.

Both couples are from Dawo community in Mangu local government area of Plateau State and only got married in April, 2025 in a wedding that was the talk of the town.

The wife’s maiden name is Retyit Dalong from Dawo in Mangu LGA. She is a trained nurse who studied at the St. St.Louis College of Nursing Sciences, Zonkwa, Kaduna State.

Lt. Haruna was initially treated at the Military reference section within the barracks before being transferred to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he later succumbed to his injuries.

The suspect has since been arrested and is currently in custody as investigations into the tragic incident continue.
