SCHOOL CHILDREN RESCUED NIGER. All the schoolchildren abducted from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri community, Niger State, have now been rescued.

The last batch of 130 students returned safely, bringing the total number of rescued pupils to 230, officials confirmed.

Officials from the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) informed ARISE News Channel on Sunday.

This release ended days of anxiety for families and the wider community.

Furthermore, it represented a major achievement for security agencies involved in the operation.

The pupils were kidnapped on November 21, 2025, when gunmen attacked the boarding school.

Consequently, the incident triggered nationwide outrage and renewed concerns about school safety across Nigeria.

Authorities said security forces applied sustained pressure to secure the students’ release.

In addition, coordinated operations between multiple agencies proved essential to rescuing the children.

Meanwhile, public calls for stronger school protection intensified as the rescue operation continued.

St. Mary’s Catholic School is managed by the OLA Sisters and owned by the Catholic Diocese of Kontagora.

The diocese belongs to the Kaduna Ecclesiastical Province.

Earlier in December, following the release of 100 students, Sr. Mary T. Barron, Congregation Leader of the OLA Sisters, provided an update.

She explained that some victims had been freed while others remained in captivity under difficult conditions.

The statement said, “We welcomed the news on 14 December that 100 people had been freed: 14 secondary students, 1 staff member, 80 primary students, and 5 nursery children.”

However, concern persisted for the remaining 165 victims.

These included 11 staff members, 35 nursery students, and 119 primary students aged five to twelve or thirteen.

Ongoing Security Efforts After School Children Rescued Niger

Security agencies continue reviewing protective measures for educational institutions.

Moreover, officials emphasized the need to prevent future attacks on schools.

As a result, families and communities remain vigilant while children return safely to their homes.
